De Blasio Says He’d Veto Chokehold Ban Bill

NEW YORK (AP) —

Mayor Bill de Blasio said Tuesday he would veto a proposed City Council bill that would make chokeholds illegal since the NYPD internal policy is the best way to regulate the practice.

Chokeholds are banned by the NYPD. But the Council took up the measure after Eric Garner, a Staten Island man, was allegedly placed in a chokehold by a police officer, duing shortly afterward from a heart attack.
