Teens Caught Vandalizing Civil War Memorial

NEW YORK (AP) -

A pair of spray-paint wielding teenagers were caught “red-handed” early Thursday vandalizing Manhattan’s famed Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Monument with crude faces and curse words.

Police officers found the 17-year-old boy and 15-year-old girl defiling the 114-year-old Civil War’s Union Army around 3:20 a.m. Thursday. They are charged with multiple counts of felony criminal mischief. Police say they’ve been in trouble before for graffiti-related offenses.

Sgt. Nathaniel Herman said suspects usually flee before police arrive but this time, “we got them, literally, red-handed.”
