State Police, Local Cops Get New Bulletproof Vests
Nearly $300,000 was awarded on Thursday to help New York law enforcement purchase 708 new bulletproof vests. The money comes from civil and criminal forfeitures and is intended to make up for a reduction in federal funding for vests. Seventy-one officers in the state have been fatally shot in the line of duty since 1984.
