Converting Driver’s License To Become Easier
Converting a U.S. driver’s license for travel in Israel has become easier, Haaretz reported on Monday.
The Knesset Committee for Absorption and Immigration has voted to cancel the requirement that new immigrants take a driving theory test in Hebrew. MK Dov Lipman (Yesh Atid) argued that the test is an unfair challenge for new immigrants who haven’t yet mastered Hebrew.
Lipman, himself an immigrant from the U.S., has been lobbying for automatic transfers of licenses, and eliminating the exorbitant fees and bureaucracy involved.
The Knesset committee is also considering an extension of the three-year period for new immigrants to convert their license from the time they arrive in Israel.
