L.I. Supervisor Back in Office After Paper Glitch

SMITHTOWN, N.Y.

A town supervisor who was forced out of office because of an oversight was reappointed to a one-year term, Newsday reported. Smithtown’s Patrick Vecchio was voted back in at a special town meeting Thursday, days after the town clerk declared the post vacant after he failed to sign a written oath of office within 30 days of taking office as required by state law. Vecchio, a Republican, signed his oath to applause for his 13th term.
