U.S. Rep. McCarthy Won’t Seek Re-Election in NY
U.S. Rep Carolyn McCarthy had been thinking about retirement for several years but worried her exit would create a void in the national discussion about gun control, she said Wednesday after announcing she will not seek a 10th term. She who was elected after her husband was killed in the 1993 Long Island Rail Road massacre, so she changed her status from Republican to Democrat and ran for her husband’s seat to become a fierce gun control activist. McCarthy, 70, is recovering from lung cancer.
