Blasting Done for Phase 1 of Second Avenue Subway

NEW YORK (AP) —

Workers on Friday finished all blasting operations for the first phase of the massive Second Avenue subway project, a decades-long, $4.45-billion project to extend the Q line up and down Second Avenue. It is expected to be ready by the end of 2016. The controlled blasting of the first phase started in November 2009.
