4 Charged in MTA Skim Scam Via Concealed Cameras

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) —

Four Romanian citizens have been charged with stealing the financial data of customers using ticket machines at suburban New York commuter rail stations, Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice announced Friday. She said one bank has reported thousands in losses but the full extent of the theft is still being investigated.

Officials say the suspects placed “skimming” devices and hidden cameras near ticket machines. Then they stole customers’ PIN numbers and other financial information.
