Brooklyn DA: Trafficker Charged With Selling Guns


Brooklyn prosecutors say a 43-year-old man has been accused of selling more than 30 guns to an undercover officer in a sting.

Christopher McPhaul was charged with criminal sale of a firearm this week after a six-month investigation. Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes said Wednesday he faces 50 years in prison if convicted. He was accused of funneling guns from North Carolina to New York City after making agreements via text message with the undercover officer.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says most of the illegal guns in the city come from North Carolina and Virginia. He says that police are working to stop the pipeline, and that murders are down by 30 percent this year.
