Wrongly Convicted Man Files Suit Against NYC
A former inmate who spent two years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit has filed a lawsuit against the Brooklyn district attorney’s office, saying he was repeatedly beaten during his two years behind bars.
Lawrence Williams’ conviction was overturned in 2012 by District Attorney Charles Hynes’ newly established Conviction Integrity Unit.
Williams was accused of robbing a Coney Island man of a gold chain and shooting him in the shoulder. He was freed after another man confessed to the crime.
