Floridians Get Chance to Buy Computers Tax-Free

For the first time ever, Floridians are going to be able to buy computers, tablets and even software tax-free.

The state’s traditional back-to-school sales tax holiday starts at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, and will last for three days.

This year, state legislators expanded the holiday beyond clothes and school supplies. It now includes computers and computer-related equipment worth up to $750.

Retailers are rushing to take advantage of it. Some electronics stores plan to offer longer hours during the time period.

And the sales tax holiday isn’t limited to brick-and-mortar stores. Apple, for example, is touting the fact that Floridians can go online to purchase some of its products tax-free.

The tax-free holiday does not apply to cellphones or smartphones, but it does apply to keyboards, monitors and routers.
