Coney Island Roller Coaster Evacuated After Tower Sways
The iconic Coney Island amusement park has been evacuated after reports of a swaying 275-foot tall observation tower.
Astrotower in Luna Park was evacuated and closed at 5 p.m. as a precaution, six hours before normal closing time. Officials from various city agencies are investigating.
Astrotower, which was installed in 1964, has not been in use since 2010. It once offered visors 360-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean and Brooklyn. It sits across the street from the Coney Island Cyclone.
