Trilateral Regional Security Meeting to be Held in June

Israel will be hosting a trilateral regional security conference in June, with the U.S. and Russia, the White House announced on Wednesday night, The Jerusalem Post reported on Thursday.

Although Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced here too, right after the Knesset vote to go to new elections, Israelis could be forgiven for not paying attention.

“I proposed to [President Donald] Trump and [Russian President Vladimir] Putin to form a U.S.-Russia-Israel trilateral committee that would meet in Jerusalem to discuss the security situation in the Middle East and both of them agreed,” Netanyahu said. “This is unprecedented. A meeting like has never taken place before in Israel. Never.”

Netanyahu said that these are the kinds of things he should be spending his time on, not another round of elections.

U.S. National Security Adviser Ambassador John Bolton, Israeli National Security Adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat, and Russian Secretary of the Security Council Nikolay Patrushev will meet “to discuss regional security issues.”

White House advisor Jared Kushner brought Netanyahu a map of Israel that showed the Golan Heights within its borders.

It was signed by the president with a hand-written comment from him that read “Nice,” the premier said in remarks to the press on Thursday evening.
