In a rare airstrike in the Shomron, an Israeli fighter jet and helicopter targeted and destroyed a Palestinian Islamic Jihad operations center in the Jenin refugee camp over the weekend. The IDF announced that the strike was launched after it was determined the terror group was planning an “imminent attack.”

The IDF reported that several “significant terrorists” were present in the operations center, including Islam Khamayseh, a senior Islamic Jihad operative. Khamayseh was implicated in numerous terror attacks in the area, notably the May 2023 shooting in the Hermesh community that killed Meir Tamari, a 32-year-old father of two. He was also behind a drive-by shooting in June 2023, which injured four Israelis.

The Israeli Air Force released footage of the strike.

In July 2023, the IDF conducted a major counterterrorism operation in Jenin, including the Jenin refugee camp, which Palestinians call “the Martyr’s Capital.” During this operation, the IDF discovered bomb-making laboratories, a rocket launcher, tunnel shafts, and other weapons inside the camp.
