Israel eliminated a senior Hezbollah field commander in southern Lebanon, the IDF announced Wednesday.

Hussain Ibrahim Mekky was responsible for various acts of terrorism against the Israeli home front, the IDF said, adding that he previously served as the commander of Hezbollah’s forces in the coastal region.

Mekky was targeted while driving near Tyre, according to the IDF.

Incoming rocket sirens blared in the Mount Meron area, as well as in Kiryat Shemona. Dozens of projectiles were fired by the Hezbollah from Lebanon.

Hezbollah has attacked Mount Meron, which is located some 8 kilometers (5 miles) from the Lebanon border, several times amid the ongoing war, launching large barrages of rockets at the mountain, as well as guided missiles at the air traffic control base that sits atop it.

Kiryat Shemona has also been targeted numerous times amid the war.
