Kosel Cleaned of Kvitelach as Erev Pesach Preparation

By Hamodia Staff

Kosel employees remove thousands of handwritten notes placed between the stones of the Kosel. The operation is carried out twice each year: before Pesach and before Rosh Hashanah. (Kosel Heritage Foundation)

The Kosel Heritage Foundation, as it does every year, was at work Tuesday removing the accumulation of kvitlach from the past six months, from between the stones of the Kosel.

The notes were collected in bags and will be buried along with sefarim sent for genizah on Har Hazeisim.

The workers used wooden sticks, not metal, so as not to defile the holy stones, chalilah. (Kosel Heritage Foundation)

Among the notes, there are thousands sent from the Diaspora.

The process was accompanied by the Rav of the Kosel, Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz.

In addition, the Foundation is preparing for Birkas Kohanim during Chol Hamoed, which will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday of Chol Hamoed.
