A-G Rejects Separate Representation in Court Discussion on Yeshivah Students’ Conscription

Attorney-General Gali Baharav-Miara refused on Thursday the request of the Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs to allow separate representation in the High Court in petitions against the Draft Law, Channel 14 reported. “The government has yet to present its position on the matter,” she said.

“The attorney-general to the government clarified that starting from April 1, 2024, there is no legal authority for granting a blanket exemption to yeshivah students from military service and that the defense system must act to enlist them according to the law,” the statement from the Attorney-General’s office read. “Regarding the request for separate representation in a petition on the matter, the government has yet to present its position on the conscription of yeshivah students, therefore, the issue cannot be examined at this time.”
