Following Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s statement on Wednesday vowing punishment for Israel’s alleged attack on the Iranian Embassy compound in Syria last week, Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz issued a strong warning. Khamenei declared that Israel “must be punished and it shall be” for the strike on Iran’s consulate in Damascus, which Iran claims resulted in the deaths of seven military advisers.

In response, Katz asserted Israel’s stance, stating that if Iran initiates an attack from its own territory, Israel will retaliate by targeting Iran directly. Katz made this statement via a post on social media, underscoring Israel’s readiness to defend itself against any aggression.

Amidst heightened tensions in the region, with Iran supporting various groups engaged in conflict, including Hezbollah in Lebanon, Iraqi factions targeting U.S. forces, and Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, Katz’s warning emphasizes Israel’s determination to respond decisively to any threat posed by Iran.
