In First, IDF Downs Target Over Eilat Using Ship-Mounted Iron Dome
Israel utilized its C-Dome defense system for the first time in an operational capacity, intercepting a suspicious aerial target near Eilat, the IDF said on Tuesday.
The C-Dome, a maritime adaptation of the Iron Dome air defense system, is deployed on Sa’ar 6-class corvettes, German-made warships.
Utilizing the same interceptor technology as the land-based Iron Dome, the C-Dome is specifically designed to protect against rocket and missile threats at sea. While the land-based Iron Dome has been frequently employed to intercept rockets from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, the C-Dome serves as a naval defense system, enhancing security against maritime rocket and missile attacks.
