Rockland Orthodox Jews Hold Fundraiser for George Latimer, Looking to Unseat Incumbent Rep. Bowman

A group of Orthodox Jews from Rockland County held a fundraiser Sunday for George Latimer, the Westchester County executive challenging incumbent U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the Democratic primary.

Bowman, whose 16th congressional district includes southern Wetschester County and a sliver of the North Bronx, is a member of the House’s far-left “Squad.” His anti-Israel rhetoric since October 7th has led even J Street, a group of Jews with left-wing views on Israel, to pull its endorsement of him.

Latimer, a self-described progressive, holds pro-Israel views and is supported by AIPAC, the major pro-Israel lobby.

The fundraiser was held at the home of Shimi Galandauer in Pomona, in Rockland County. The fundraiser participants were not residents of the 16th district — underscoring the importance of the Bowman-Latimer race to the wider Jewish community as Israel engages in a war with Hamas in Gaza.
