French Police Search for Man Who Assaulted Jewish Man in Paris

French authorities are on the hunt for an assailant who assaulted a man leaving a synagogue in Paris, according to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin.

Darmanin describes the incident as “a recent antisemitic attack that occurred in Paris” on Friday evening involving a man in his early 60s. In a post on social media, Darmanin states, “Everything is being done to apprehend the perpetrator of this unspeakable act.”

According to reports from French media, the assailant physically and verbally attacked the man around 5:30 p.m. local time on Friday as he exited a synagogue in Paris’s 20th arrondissement. The assailant reportedly kicked and punched the victim multiple times while shouting an ethnic slur. The victim was subsequently transported to a hospital, and the suspected attacker fled the scene on foot, as reported by French broadcaster BFM, citing police sources.
