U.S. Asserts World Court Must Consider Israel’s Security Concerns

On Wednesday, the United States emphasized that the World Court must take Israel’s security needs into account before issuing any immediate orders for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the West Bank and Gaza.

Richard Visek, acting legal adviser at the U.S. State Department, made his statement during the proceedings at the United Nations’ highest court, which is currently examining the legality of Israel’s “occupation” of the Palestinian territories. Visek underscored that any steps toward Israel’s withdrawal should carefully consider the country’s genuine security requirements.
