Hamas Leader Haniyeh Expected in Cairo as Negotiations Hit Roadblock

Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh is set to touch down in Cairo on Tuesday, accompanied by a delegation from the Palestinian organization, a news outlet affiliated with Hezbollah reported.

According to Lebanon’s al Mayadeen satellite news station, the visit will include discussions in the Egyptian capital. With Haniyeh will be Khalil al-Hayya, a top-ranking Hamas member from the Doha-based politburo.

The trip comes amid a stalemate in negotiations for a temporary ceasefire and hostage release mediated by American, Qatari, and Egyptian parties. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has publicly dismissed the group’s demands as “delusional.”
