A 30-year-old Jewish student in Berlin was hospitalized on Friday after being assaulted by a 23-year-old pro-Palestinian student during a dispute over the ongoing war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as reported by the German Judische Allgemeine newspaper. The pro-Palestinian struck the Jewish victim in the Mitte borough of Berlin, causing him to fall to the ground, and continued to punch him before fleeing the scene. The pro-Palestinian suspect has been arrested, with items, including his phone, confiscated during a search of his home.
The assault adds to the growing concerns about rising antisemitism worldwide since the Oct. 7 Hamas onslaught, including a notable increase in Germany.
Berlin’s antisemitism commissioner, Felix Klein, stated that the level of Jew-hatred in the country has reached unprecedented levels in recent years.
