BD”E — Hagaon Harav Baruch Weisbecker, Zt”l

The Torah world in Eretz Yisrael and worldwide was thrown into mourning with the petirah of Hagaon Harav Baruch Weisbecker, zt”l, Rosh Yeshiva of Beis Mattisyahu in Bnei Brak and a Chaver of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah of Degel Hatorah on Thursday evening, 23 Shvat in Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center in Bnei brak after a prolonged illness. He was 83 years old.

Rav Baruch was born in Tel Aviv on 2 Cheshvan 5701/November 21, 1940 to Rav Moshe and Tzivia Weissbecker. He learned is Yeshivas Ponovezh as a close talmid of Hagaon Harav Elazar Menachem Shach, zt”l, and Hagaon Harav Shmuel Rozovsky, zt”l. He was a chavrusah of ybl”c Harav Shmuel Markowitz, shlita, and Harav Eliyahu Baruch Finkel, zt”l.

Circa 1960 he married Rebbetzin Sarah Leah Dvorkin, the daughter of Harav Eliyahu Yeruchom Dvorkin, zt”l, the Rav of Hod Hasharon.

Rav Baruch, who has thousands of talmidim, served as a magid shiur in Yeshiva Kol Torah in Yerushalayim, and founded Yeshiva Beis Mattisyahu in 5742. Rav Baruch joined the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah of Degel Hatorah in 5781.

In the summer of 5779, he took ill, and had several episodes where he was hospitalized for various maladies.

The levayah will take place Erev Shabbos at 10:00 a.m. at the yeshiva. Kevurah will be in the Ponovezh Beis Olam.
