By Matis Glenn

NYPD were searching citywide Wednesday for a man who has stabbed multiple people, seemingly at random, in the Jackson Heights area of Queens, police said.

Police say the suspect is known to have stabbed five people in the Jackson Heights area of Queens, on four separate occasions. The first incident occurred on January 8, when a 61-year-old man was stabbed in the back. One January 16, where a 34-year-old woman was attacked, and on Wednesday, two men, 41 and 74, were attacked on the same street.

The alleged stabber, a man in his 20’s, is believed to be using the subway system to travel around the city.

Police issued high-level mobilization announcements in Brooklyn at Barclay’s Center, in Queens at 74th Street and Roosevelt Avenue, and in Manhattan at Columbus Circle.

Later in the day, police said that the suspect may have been responsible for a subway stabbing on the J train Wednesday afternoon.

The subway system saw a heavy police presence throughout the day, as authorities continue to search for the suspect.

Late Wednesday night, NYPD announced that a person of interest was taken into police custody.
