Suspect Arrested in Shabbos Hate Crime Assault on Elderly Man in Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills police arrested a man in connection with a brutal, antisemitic assault on an elderly Jewish man over Shabbos.

The suspect, 44-year-old Jarris Jay Silagi of Los Angeles, was arrested Sunday afternoon after a manhunt was carried out by law enforcement.

Police say Silagi allegedly struck the victim, a man in his 70s, with a belt, causing a laceration on his head, and hurles antisemitic insults at the couple before fleeing. The assault occurred when the victim was walking with his wife on North Rexford Drive and North Santa Monica Boulevard at around 9:03 a.m.

The victim, though injured, reportedly regained his composure and pursued the assailant, but he escaped.

Silagi was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, a hate crime, attempted robbery and elder abuse.
