Deadline Approaches for NY Drivers Who Self-Certified Vision Tests

New York drivers who renewed their licenses at the height of the pandemic without taking a vision test can face suspension next month if they don’t update their licenses, Newsday reports.
Almost 51,000 drivers statewide renewed their licenses under a special allowance that permitted them to self-certify that they were able to see well enough to drive. Licenses that expired between March 1, 2020, and Aug. 31, 2021, fell under that exemption.
The Department of Motor Vehicles urges drivers to submit vision tests taken by approved service providers by Dec. 1 to avoid possible suspension.
