BD’E — Rebbetzin Chana Hershkowitz, A”h

Hamodia is saddened to report the petirah of Rebbetzin Chana Hershkowitz, a”h, the wife of Hagaon Harav Meir Hershkowitz, zt”l, Rosh Yeshiva of Bais Binyomin of Stamford.

Rebbetzin Hershkowitz was the daughter of Mr. Harry Schiff, who was an ehrlicher baal habos who owned a fruit store in Brooklyn, yet his children became the royalty of Torah in America as they went on to be some of the premier talmidei chachamim in the yeshiva world in the 1940s and 1950s, and then went on to lead yeshivos and become marbitzei Torah to multitudes of talmidim in the subsequent decades.

Rebbitzen Hershkowitz’s husband was one of the greatest talmidim of Hagaon Harav Aharon Kotler, zt”l in Bais Medrash Govoha of Lakewood, and later said delivered chaburos for the elite talmidei chachamim in the kollel before becoming Rosh Yeshiva in Adelphia and Stamford, where his chidushim were sought after for decades.

Mr. Schiff’s other daughter, Rebbetzin Hinda, a”h, married Harav Shmuel Faivelson, zt”l, Rosh Yeshiva of Bais Shraga of Monsey and Bais Medrash L’Torah of Monsey. His sons were Harav Shiya Schiff, zt”l, Rosh Yshiva of Bais Shraga of Monsey, and a son in law of Harav Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz, zt”l, Menahel of Yeshiva Torah Vodaas; and ybl”c Harav Yaakov Schiff, shlita, a son in law of the Brisker Rav, zt”l.

Rebbetzin Hershkowitz was totally devoted to facilitating her husband’s harbotzas haTorah, and made do with the bare minimum in order to allow him to teach Torah to his talmidim.

The levayah is scheduled to take place Wednesday evening in Lakewood, NJ and Thursday morning at 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Yeshiva Bais Binyomin, 51 Carlton Road in Monsey.

Kevurah will be on Har Hamenuchos in Yerushalayim.
