Media Mogul Eric Gertler Visits Boro Park Community

BORO PARK — Eric Gertler, chairman of U.S. News and World Report, investment banker and philanthropist, visited Boro Park on Friday.

Gertler met with Orthodox community leaders at the Boro Park JCC, where he discussed the community’s experiences with allegedly anti-Orthodox bias in much of the mainstream media. He also toured Bais Yaakov of Boro Park.

Gertler’s resume includes current and past stints as Executive Chairman of U.S. News & World Report, Co-Chairman and Co-Publisher of the Daily News, Acting Commissioner of Empire State Development, Executive Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation.

He is a managing partner of investment fund Ulysses Ventures, and sits boards of universities including Columbia, Harvard Kennedy School, Technion-Israel Institute, Tel Aviv University and the Weizmann Institute. He is also Chairman of the American-Israel Friendship League, a member of Young Presidents’ Organization, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

While not discussed explicitly at the meeting, Gertler is rumored to be interested in entering electoral politics, and in establishing connections in various communities.

The Jewish community officials, who have alleged bias in its coverage in secular media, were happy to meet with an influential official in the media field and beyond.

Avi Greenstein, CEO of BPJCC, said he was eager to share with Gertler “the beauty that is Boro Park. We are ready and eager to be the ambassadors and to offer further opportunities for those who want to meet and engage us so we can further awareness of the beauty and uniqueness of this special community.”

“We are grateful to Eric for listening and engaging with us and hearing the issues of the community and for giving us the opportunity to tell our story, the real story of the Orthodox community.”
