BROOKLYN — A brazen burglar robbed a Williamsburg apartment of cash and other items in broad daylight Tuesday afternoon, while a mother and her baby were home.

The thief entered the apartment building at Wallabout and Walton Streets, likely after ringing a number of apartment bells from the lobby and being buzzed in by one resident, according to Shomrim.

The man then walked into an apartment whose doors was unlocked, and began opening drawers looking for items to steal. He grabbed some cash and legal documents — then fled when the woman, home alone with her baby, walked in to the room.

He dropped the legal documents as he fled down the stairs.

A Williamsburg Shomrim coordinator told Hamodia, “People have to be careful never to buzz anyone in without knowing who they are, and never to leave their apartment doors unlocked. Your neighbors may be friendly and honest — but there are always some very unfriendly and dishonest people out there looking to steal.”

Police and Shomrim are looking for the suspect, a black male last seen wearing a black shirt and multi-colored pants.
