A suspect was arrested Tuesday in connection with an unprovoked assault on an Orthodox Jewish man in Boca Raton last week, as well as a robbery, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office.

Daniel Scanlan, 34, was arrested for allegedly hitting the visibly Jewish man from behind on Friday, knocking off the victim’s yarmulkah and calling him an antisemitic slur outside of a Walmart, after allegedly robbing the store.

Police arrested Scanlan, of Lake Worth, for both incidents, and are treating the assault as a hate crime.

“Zero tolerance for this. Busted,” the Sherriff’s office wrote on social media. “Welcome to PBC jail,” they continued.
