Man Charged With Hate Crime for Threatening to Shoot Jew in Queens

NEW YORK — A Long Island man has been arrested and charged with a hate crime for allegedly threatening to shoot a Jewish teen in Queens last fall.

The incident occurred October 20, 2022, at The Bay Terrace Shopping Center in Bayside. According to the NYPD, Eli Irby, 23, of Deer Park Long Island, walked up to the 19-year-old Jewish man, made antisemitic statements and threatened to shoot him.

Irby was charged with menacing as a hate crime and aggravated harassment motivated by religious bias.
