Hamodia is saddened to report the sudden petirah of Harav Yonah Binyomin Rechnitzer, the Rosh Yeshiva of Chernoble in Elad. He was 69 years old.

Rav Yonah was the beloved rosh yeshiva to thousands of talmidim over the past twenty years, as he taught them how to properly learn and infused them with chassidus and mussar.

Born in Yerushalayim 1953 to Rav Shimon Yitzchak, a prominent Belzer chassid, Rav Yonah learned in Belzer cheder and yehsiva ketanah before transferring to the yeshiva of Harav Yitzchak Dov Koppelman, zt”l in Lucerne, Switzerland, where he gained a name as one of his most distinguished talmidim. He then learned in Ponovezh marrying the daughter of Reb Shmuel Unger of Monsey.

Several years later, he entered Yeshivas Mir in Yerushalayim where he became a close talmid of Harav Nachum Partzovitz, zt”l. In his shiurim in subsequent years, he followed the path that he learned from Rav Nachum, concentrating on explaining the Rishonim in a manner which fits with the text of the Rishon before continuing on to the words of the Acharonim.

On Thursday, Rav Yonah’s rebbetzin became alarmed when he did not respond to her phone calls, and she contacted other hanhallah members asking them to check up on him. When they entered his room in yeshiva, they found him laying over his Gemara.

The levayah took place Thursday evening in Elad, with kevurah to be on Har Hamenuchos.

Yehi zichro baruch.
