Gov’t Asks High Court for Delay on Khan al-Ahmar Evacuation, Again

The government on Wednesday requested a four-month delay to carry out the High Court’s ruling to evacuate and raze the illegal Bedouin herding village of Khan al-Ahmar.

The High Court ruled in 2018 that the settlement could be razed but allowed for delays, which have been used regularly by the different governments since the ruling.

The move comes despite several of the members of the new government – including Finance Minister Betzalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir – actively petitioning for the evacuation to be carried out.

Media reports said the two were overruled by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
