Multiple Attempted Muggings Reported in Crown Heights

BROOKLYN — In response to multiple attempted muggings in Crown Heights, Shomrim has alerted the community to be extra vigilant until the suspected perpetrators are apprehended.

At 2:08 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24, Shomrim responded to a third-party call which reported a man was in distress at in the vicinity of Empire Boulevard and Troy Avenue. Upon arrival, Shomrim determined that an attempted robbery had occurred approximately 10 minutes earlier.

The victim, approximately 60 years old, was able to fend off the perpetrators who had demanded his phone, and described the assailants as three male teenagers with backpacks.

NYPD was notified and a report was filed with the police, who said that detectives are following up on the incident.

Meanwhile, another similar episode was reported at 4:00 pm, when Shomrim received a call from another victim, who reported that a group matching the same description and attempted to rob him at knifepoint in the same vicinity at more or less the same time. The victim managed to escape from his attackers.

Shomrim responded with multiple volunteers and canvassed the area extensively to no avail. Police were called for this incident as well, and the NYPD took a report and they are trying to identify the perpetrators.
