NYC Districting Committee Releases New City Council Maps
By Matis Glenn
The New York City Districting Committe released the final version of its district maps, set to take effect in the 2023 election. In the meantime, city councilmembers will continue to represent the areas according to the previous map.
Some streets in Midwood, including the area of Avenue M in the teen’s, that previously were in District 48, led by Councilwoman Inna Vernikov(R), will now be in the jurisdiction of District 44, under Kalman Yeger(D).
The city revises district maps for City Council every 10 years.
“I am sad to be losing constituents from a community that I appreciate so much, Vernikov told Hamodia. “For anyone that I will no longer be representing as of January 2024: You will be in good hands!”
“I’m also looking forward to jumping into the new areas in our district in 2024 and being there for everyone in need of support and assistance,” she added.
Below is the previous district map.
