BD’E: Woman Killed in Car Accident in Monsey

By Matis Glenn

Tragedy struck the Monsey Jewish community Monday morning, as a woman who had been missing for several hours on Sunday, was found dead near a Monsey road, according to Rockland Chaverim.

Mrs. Miriam Sussman a”h, 52, was discovered by a member of Rockland Chaverim at 1AM Monday morning. Mrs. Sussman’s family called Chaverim at 12AM when she did not return home following a pidyon haben celebration, which finished at around 4:45PM. From that time on, Mrs. Sussman was not in contact with anyone.

Chaverim scoured the area, and eventually took to retracing the victim’s steps on foot from the place where the pidyon haben was held to her house, walking in between homes and examining side paths, whereupon a member found a pair of eyeglasses and a cell phone. They soon found her 30 feet from the side of West Carlton Road and Carlton Road.

Chaverim say that the victim was hit by a car, and that they have heard from witnesses that the occupants of the vehicle stayed in the area for 20 minutes, and were looking to find what they had hit.

Hatzalah and Chaverim arrived at the scene, but were unable to provide any medical assistance.

Ramapo Police are investigating the death.

The levayah for Mrs. Sussman took place at 1:00 p.m. at Khal Shoshanas Ha’amakim of Tolmich, located at 68 Carlton Rd.
