A 21-year-old Arab from the Arab neighborhood of Beit Hanina in Yerushalayim was arrested by Israel Police on suspicion of slapping a chareidi youth on the Light Rail train and uploading footage of the incident to social media.

The group of yeshivah bachurim who sat Thursday on the train and talked calmly, did not imagine what would happen to them, and that they were about to fall victim to Arab terrorism.

One Arab photographed them, while his friend approached one of the bachurim, slapping him hard across his face.

He then also posted the video on social media.

Minister Rabbi Aryeh Deri said that “the shocking and anti-Semitic documentation is horrifying and frightening, the heart aches and finds it hard to believe that precisely in the Jewish State people are brutally attacked only because of their chareidi appearance.”

Minister Rabbi Yaakov Litzman responded: “The documentation of the attack on the young man on a train in Yerushalayim by a terrorist is extremely shocking. This should be on the agenda and the Israeli police should stop the attacks immediately. Today it is a slap across the face and tomorrow it could be a knife or a shooting attack.”

The suspect was interrogated and was brought to court on Friday morning, where police requested an extension of his arrest.

The police investigation is ongoing.
