The first person in Israel to be hospitalized in serious condition from the coronavirus has recovered and was released from Poriya Hospital in Teveria on Monday afternoon.

The 38-year-old bus driver from East Jerusalem was the first person who required a ventilator in Israel and has recovered from the virus.

He was hospitalized on March 4 after driving a group of Greek tourists who were later confirmed to have the virus.

The hospital said that he was the first person in Israel to be treated with Remdesivir, an experimental antiviral drug developed by Gilead Sciences, and has successfully recovered.

Yerushalayim’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center also reported that two patients who had contracted the coronavirus were released Monday.
