Harav Duvid Yisroel Hakohen Weiss, Zt”l, Kaminke Rav of Boro Park

The sudden petirah of Harav Duvid Yisroel Hakohen Weiss, Zt”l, Kaminke Rav of Boro Park, leaves a gaping void. Rav Weiss was from the closest talmidim and a ben bayis of the previous Bobover Rebbe, Harav Shloime Halberstam, Zt”l, who was machtir Rav Weiss as Kaminke Rav.

Rav Weiss was born in the United States to his father, Reb Lazer Lipman Shaul Hakohen Weiss, Z”l, and his mother, Mrs. Hinda Leah (Fischler) Weiss, A”h. Rav Weiss’s maternal grandfather, Reb Yonah Fischler, Z”l, was from the chashuve Chassidei Belz and was well known for his many acts of gemilus chassadim.

Rav Weiss and his Rebbetzin, Shifra (Barone), had an open house that welcomed any and every one. Many couples were counseled by Rav Weiss, who helped restore their shalom bayis. Rav Weiss was the founder of a special telephone line called Shoneh Halachos which would provide taped shiurim on halachah, gemara and stories of Gedolei Yisroel.

Rav Weiss’s levayah took place at his shul, Bais Yehoshua Kaminke, on 56th street off 17th Avenue, and then proceeded to the airport for kevurah on Har Hazeisim, alongside his father and father-in-law, Harav Sheyala Barone, the Kaminka Rav of Yerushalayim, Zt”l.

Rav Weiss is survived by his Rebbetzin Shifra, his sister, Mrs. Raizel Glatzer (Monsey) and his children, Reb Yechezkel Shraga, Reb Shulem (Yerushalayim), Mrs. Chana Golda Rumpler (Yerushalayim), Mrs. Suri Rubin, Mrs. Henny Deutsch, Mrs. Miriam Fradel Horowitz and Mrs. Esther Malky Kifnes (Yerushalayim).

Yehi Zichro Baruch.
