3 Arrested After Searching Flatbush Sewer System
Three men hoping to find discarded valuables in a hot and putrid East Flatbush sewer system have been arrested — after coming out empty-handed.
Two of them were nabbed after emerging from a manhole and the third suspect, a part-time employee with the city Department of Environmental Protection, was accused of uncovering the manhole to let the two inside.
Police say Marquise Evans told authorities he let David Hannibal and Damion Nieves, both of Brooklyn, into the sewers to search for discarded merchandise like jewelry. They surfaced after several hours.
