NY Raises Fine for Pet Theft to $1,000
New York on Wednesday raised the fine for trying to steal someone’s pet to $1,000, up from the old maximum of $200 set in 1970, The Associated Press reported. It’s a crime to remove a collar from a pet without the owner’s permission or to transport one in order to sell or kill it.
