Cuomo Satire Reinvents CNN As ‘Cuomo News Network’

ALBANY (AP) —

A satirical video from Democratic Gov. Andrew mocks state Republicans and imagines a “Cuomo News Network” that he says is better than the real CNN.

The 8-minute video titled “The Empire State Governor Strikes Back” was Cuomo’s contribution to Tuesday night’s Legislative Correspondents Association show in Albany.

The video included a fake news show hosted by former Gov. David Paterson that featured a “behind-the-scenes” look at last month’s Republican state convention, where Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino was nominated for governor. In the clip, the faces of Astorino and 2010 GOP candidate Carl Paladino were superimposed over dancing characters.

Polls give Cuomo a substantial lead over Astorino, and he is also way ahead in fundraising.

Cuomo also poked fun at the media and at himself, imagining a “Cuomo News Network” that he says is better than the real CNN. “It has more viewers and it’s more important!” he says. Cuomo’s younger brother, Chris, is a news anchor for CNN.

Astorino contributed his own satirical video in which he mocks his squeaky clean image with a skit.

Both candidates were frequent targets at the correspondents association show, an annual fixture in Albany in which Statehouse reporters present skits skewering the officials they cover.
