NYer Retires After 56-year Army Career
A Korean War veteran from Syracuse is retiring from the U.S. Army after more than a half century as a federal government employee.
Frank Motolo, 84, retired Monday after 56 years as an Army employee, including 21 on active duty and the past 35 as a civilian worker. The Hartford, Connecticut, native enlisted at 17 in 1947 and served with the Third Infantry. He earned a Bronze Medal in the Korean War and retired in 1968 as a sergeant first class.
After working about 10 years as a builder, he became a civilian Army Reserve recruiter in 1979 at the Army Recruiting Battalion in Syracuse, where he later worked as its facilities manager.
Motolo says he worked so long because he loved his job.
