Obama Praises NYC Diner Owner for Wage Bump
A Manhattan restaurant owner who is raising her workers’ pay to $10 an hour was praised by Obama during his weekly national address, the Daily News reported. Egyptian immigrant Yasmin Ibrahim said she was thrilled after hearing her story recounted Saturday. She employs 10 workers, some of whom make $8 an hour, and wrote to Obama after hearing during the State of the Union address in January about the owner of a pizzeria who raised his workers’ pay.
