Assembly Speaker Calls for Special Elections
The Assembly’s top Democrat called on Friday for special elections to fill 11 currently open seats. Speaker Sheldon Silver wants to fill the seats as soon as possible, saying more than 1 million New York residents lack representation. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said his administration is looking into calling special elections before November, noting it would be expensive.
