Rabbi Elkana Eliasi, z”l
Rabbi Elkana Eliasi, z”l, a distinguished disciple of Hagaon Harav Ovadia Yosef, zt”l, was killed in a tragic road accident on Wednesday in Tel Aviv. Rabbi Eliasi was an outstanding talmid chacham, who headed the Rabbeinu Yosef Chaim kollel and had authored several works on Judaism.
Due to his outreach efforts, he was well-known and appreciated outside the chareidi community as well, and dozens of secular Israelis were present at his funeral.
“The secular community was close to him…He would bring people closer to Judaism, teach them Torah, get them to keep the Shabbos. He was like the spiritual father of the neighborhood,” they recalled.
Rabbi Eliasi, 41, was killed by a tractor at a construction site. Paramedics found him already dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor, a 38-year-old man from the Israeli Arab town of Kfar Kara, was detained for questioning, though police said they had no immediate evidence that it was a terrorist attack.
Rabbi Eliasi was buried Wednesday evening. He is survived by his wife and ten children.
