Greenfield: Classify Knockouts as Federal Hate Crimes

BROOKLYN -

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder should prosecute knockout assaults that are motivated by race or religion as federal hate crimes, Councilman David Greenfield said in a statement. There have been nearly two dozen attacks in Brooklyn by minority teens on Jews since September. Greenfield’s request comes after federal authorities charged a Texas man with a federal hate crime in connection with an assault against an elderly black man.
