NY State Park Officers Honored for River Heroics
Two state park police officers have been awarded New York’s highest civilian honor for rescuing an unconscious man from his runaway boat earlier this year.
Officers John Friot and Dustin Lottie were presented Tuesday with the New York State Liberty Award during a cere-mony held in Ogdensburg in northern New York. They rescued 71-year-old Thomas Clark of Malone last June after Clark passed out at the helm of his 28-foot cabin cruiser because of carbon monoxide fumes. The officers arrived on the scene in their patrol boat just before Clark’s vessel headed toward a dam on the St. Lawrence River near Massena.
Friot jumped into Clark’s moving boat and put it in neutral. The officers got medical help for Clark, who was treated at a hospital and released.
